SFC Italia 2009 Milan Tour
The Suffolk Football Club (SFC) U16 boys soccer team (SFC Italia) left JFK Friday April 3 for Milan Italy lead by Coach Anthony Roros to train at the AC Milan Youth Academy (ACM Italian professional soccer club). The 12 boys where very excited to get to Milan to see how soccer is played in Italy.
The boys stayed at a local hotel (Hotel Ornato) and walk each day to their morning and afternoon training sessions. The ACM training facility was excellent containing a full size turf field, smaller indoor fields and full locker rooms. Each day they where trained by 2 members of the AC Milan Academy trainer (trainer1 & trainer2). The boys trained 2 times a day for 4 to 5 hours plus 3 matches it was week of high intensity training that could not be duplicated at home.
The team played 3 matches the 1st match against a young U14 team from Stockholm Sweden. The boys won (4-0) but the smaller Swedes where technical gift team that the boys befriend.
The 2nd match was against the U15 AC Milan Academy team. The Italia played a great match to a (3-3) tie against a very talented academy team.
The 3rd match was against the U16 AC Milan Academy team, the boys fought back from a (2-0) deficit to tie the match at (4-4).
Along with the training and matches the boys went to 2 professional soccer games at the world famous stadium (Stadio San Siro) home for AC Milan and International Milan. With our new Swedish U14 friends we saw AC Milan beat Lecce (2-0) with 90,000 screaming fans. It was a event I know I will never forget. The 2nd match was Inter-Milan against Palermo a (2-2) tie and after the match at diner the boys met Inter-Milan player Francesco Bolzoni (36) who autographed their game tickets.
Most of the sight seeing was done by the parents while the boys trained. The parents went to see the sight of Inner Milan, Lake Como, and Florence. The Italia toured Milan as a team sight seeing the Piazza Duomo and Castello Sforzesco while learning the mass transportation system of Milan. One day was set aside for the boys to tour Venice with there families.
The trip was a tremendous success thanks to the planning of Coach Roros and the constant support of the parents. The boys went on a trip of a lifetime and have memories that will last a lifetime.
